On Wednesday 20/11, we opened our dedicated dismantling hall for narrow body aircraft at the Ostend-Bruges International Airport. 150 attendees witnessed the towing in of the second aircraft in the hall, a Lufthansa Airbus 320. The hall is a ‘steel fabric structural hall’. We have chosen this concept of the Finnish constructor Best-Hall because of the sustainable character of the hall: end-of-life the steel can be 100% remelted and the fabric is recyclable as well. The extra transparency of the roof fabric allows us to reduce energy use: using daylight is maximized and the lighting adapts to the natural light coming through so a constant light intensity and quality is guaranteed. We have arranged this in a ‘light as a service’ contract with our partner ETAP lighting. Co-ordination of the building project was done by Martens-Van Caimere architects, a sustainable building award winning architectural office.
We are very proud of this important next step and would like to pay great gratitude to everyone who has accompanied Aerocircular on this amazing trip thus far and we are looking forward to a bright future together with all our partners.
